MOKA: Last week, during the 2-day workshop of the SolarX Startup Accelerator Programme 2025 conducted by the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and Business Mauritius, some Indian and African start-ups signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) for using each other’s products to lower the costs associated with solar energy. According to ISA officials, a cohort of 50 selected start-ups from the Asia and APAC region participated in the programme, including 10 from India and 20 from Africa.
Pragya Gupta, Resource Mobilisation Specialist, ISA, pointed out that some start-ups from India and Africa in this cohort are collaborating to bring down the costs associated with solar energy.
“They are putting each other’s products in each other’s countries. ISA is helping them with technology transfers, doing South-South collaborations through the Solar X programme. The Indian Solar X winners are signing MoUs with African Solar X start-ups. One example is an Indian start-up who is into solar agripump signed an MoU with an African start-up wherein they are exporting the technology and that is reducing the cost in Africa.
