Malta, a small but vibrant financial hub, hosts fintech startups, fund managers, insurance firms and payment providers in close proximity. Despite its size, Malta supports diverse financial activities with a mix of international and local institutions.

During this year’s Money20/20 Europe in Amsterdam, Finance Malta – the public-private initiative set up to promote Malta as a financial centre – showcased the island country’s unique fintech offering.

The Malta stand at the show saw a collaboration of key government entities that also included Malta Enterprise, Tech-MT and the Malta Stock Exchange.

To learn more about why Malta is fast becoming a hotbed for innovation, we chatted to Alan Cuschieri, governor of Finance Malta, who provided us with a deep dive into Malta’s thriving fintech scene.

He also highlighted how Malta’s strong regulatory framework not only facilitates but encourages innovation.
